Q&A
To ensure your favourite dryer or iron remains by your side for years to come, you need to take care of it. Above all, to maintain the kind of performance you had the first day of use, certain good habits are required.
1. Cleaning
The accumulation of styling products (heat protectants, sprays, etc.) on your tool’s heating elements can reduce its efficiency and produce less satisfactory results. Impurities can even get in your hair.
Ideally, you should clean the iron or dryer after every use. In practice, though, this isn’t necessarily realistic! Instead, plan on a thorough monthly cleaning.
Simply use a rag and warm water, a mix of water and bicarbonate of soda or even rubbing alcohol. For superior results, rub the iron while it’s still slightly warm. Of course, it should not be on or plugged in.
2. Dusting off
Periodic cleaning of your hair dryer’s filter is a must. A dusty filter will considerably limit power. Worse, it may cause the device to overheat and become a fire hazard. It’s no joke!
Some hair dryers have a convenient removable filter. If yours does, simply rinse it under the tap to remove built-up debris. If the filter is not removable, use a toothbrush to gently dislodge trapped dirt.
3. Proper storing
Keep your electrical accessories in a closed place such as a drawer so they don’t gather dust. Also, don’t twist the cords. This might break the electrical wires or simply make using the tools unpleasant.
Clean, well-maintained hair styling devices will have an optimized lifespan. Plus, these good habits will reduce damage to your hair.
