How Long Does Eye Makeup Lasts?

Fresh mascara that goes on like a charm – now that’s happiness! After a few months, the contents of the tube dry out and form clumps, but you’re determined to use the product right to the very end. Careful! This habit could lead to serious problems (including eye trouble)!

Is product quality affected?

Unfortunately, yes. The product’s texture may be altered once it has expired. Plus, the active ingredients of eyelash serum, for example, will not perform as well.

But the biggest risk is an allergic reaction or even an eye infection.

What are the signs of an expired product?

Some of our senses will help detect expired cosmetics. Here are a few revealing signs:

  1. Smell: The product has developed an unpleasant smell.
Texture: The product no longer has the same consistency or separates.
Reaction: The skin reacts in an unusual way to the product.

In the case of irritation, puffiness, spots, sties or any other undesirable effect, use of the product should be stopped immediately.

Ideally, mascara should be replaced every 3 months, just like a liquid liner. Eyelid shadow should be discarded 3 to 6 months after the initial use. Eye pencil lasts 12 months.

To be on your game!

Unlike food, the expiry date on cosmetics is not early indicated. A trick for keeping track of your makeup is to write down the date the product was opened – not the date of purchase. That way, it will be easier to calculate the product’s freshness.

Also, to optimize the life of beauty products, they shouldn’t be left in the bathroom. The warm, damp environment could cause mould (yuck!).

When in doubt, our eye health is the top priority!
